Blue Oyster Cult
GENERAL SERIES INFO:
This DVD contains a series of lessons from a regular
guy who is also a guitar teacher
with 30 years experience playing, writing and teaching. The goal was
to create a series of no-frills
instructional videos each of which are the equivalent of many individual private
lessons. The emphasis is on easy to follow lessons, light on ego and
flashy production techniques but full of instructional value: showing, teaching
and explaining rhythm and lead lines to some of
the worlds greatest classic rock tunes. This series of DVD's personalizes the
process and covers each
lesson completely through demonstrations, explanation
and close up views of the fingerings. You progress at your own pace -
playing easier parts first and picking up more each time you play it!
This DVD series includes lessons that are designed to benefit a wide ranges of ages and abilities. Good basic guitar abilities are a prerequisite of this series and it is gear toward a range within the intermediate category. Early intermediate students can find months of material to work on in each DVD - starting on easier songs and working up to the more difficult. The more experienced players may still find surprises in the easier material or just move more quickly to the more advanced details of the chords, riffs and leads. This series does NOT include any TAB or written material - its designed to teach thru visual and audio instruction and demonstration. By watching and playing along with guitar in hand, the student is also training his ear with the ultimate goal of being able to pick out songs on their own. (The series focus is on the fingering hand, while picking hand shots are included when deemed necessary, most basic strumming and individual note picking is understood at this level.)
NOTES ON Blue Oyster Cult DVD:
Great guitar progressions, riffs & songs!
This is about average difficulty for classic rock and doesn't have a large amount of lead work although there are a number of single note riffs. It does have some songs with very well known guitar-based riffs and progressions that got huge amount of radio airplay. Godzilla is one of those chord progressions that everyone recognizes instantly and as fun though not quite as boring to play as SMOKE ON THE WATER! Cities in Flame with Rock has a very cool main single note riff which does take a little skill to pull off and may require some practice for many to do well, which could also be said for the simple progression but fast picked arpeggios of Don't Fear The Reaper. RU Ready 2 Rock is straight forward crunch fun and Burnin' for You is another of their very hook and radio friendly tunes that while heavily played on the radio has some substance with both interesting multi-chord progressions and hooky guitar melody and lead lines. If you love BOC and enjoy learning from this series, then this is a must DVD!
